No surprises in the NVL this week. Except maybe the Saturday barn-burner between Torrington and Wilby. Watertown looked strong, picking up its 3rd win of the season. Woodland and HC seem to be on the same page, while Naugatuck doesn't even seem to be in the book.
Looking ahead to this week, the premier match up is Friday night at Jimmy Lee, when Crosby hosts Seymour in a battle of quality unbeaten teams. Cats versus Dogs! Crosby is 2nd in the Class L standings, with Seymour topping the SS rankings. Will it be Seymour's grind it out running game, or the speed, height, and athleticism of the Crosby passing game. Speed kills...then again, so does Mike Osiecki.
Another interesting matchup is Wolcott visiting Ansonia. Ansonia may be tops, but the Eagles have been impressive this year. Count 'em-367 rushing yards for the Eagles on Friday night versus Kennedy. The sleddin' won't be as easy Friday at Nolan Field, but I think Wolcott will be in this one for a while. In the end, Ansonia may have the one weapon they need-Tristan Roberts. Plus, all Ron Bilodeau does is throw TD passes.
The rest of the slate includes:
Thursday
Naugy @ Sacred Heart
Friday
Kennedy @ HC
Region 16 @ Torrington
Saturday
Watertown @ Wilby

Now things heat up. Crosby Seymour, AHS Wolc, all big Brass showdowns. Copper puts Woodland vs Torrrington. Great week in the NVL
Won't it be ironic when Woodland or Torrington win the Copper with a losing record?
Week 5. Here are my picks.
Naugy/SH
Ouch!! This shouldn't be so tough to call but it is. Naugy looked awful against Seymour but SH hasn't gotten over the hump yet either. I'll take Naugy just cause i gotta take someone.
Naugy 26-20
Seymour/Crosby
Finally!!! Crosby gets a chance to show what its made of. They present some interesting problems for the Wildcats but not enough to come out on top. Crosby can't stop the run and Seymour can run with the best of them. Osiecki is the X factor here. Seymour 48-27
Wolcott/Ansonia
Another match-up of a wanna be and a been there. Wolcott is getting better but the Chargers escape this one. Closer than some may think. Ansonia 34-27
Kennedy/HC
Where oh where have the Crusaders gone? But i'll take them by an extra point.
HC 21-20
Woodland/Torrington
This one woulda been more fun if Anderson were still at Woodland. Dunaj gets another one here. woodland just isn't that good and Torrington is starting to believe. Torrington 21-12
Watertown/Wilby
I'll take the Indians here. Don't know enough about either team to make any interesting comments.
Watertown 41-14
Enjoy the games.
Naugy28 SH 24 Tight game but gotta give the edge to Naugy.
Sey 28 Crosby 20 The cats could control the tempo with there offense, but Crosby will be able to score.
AHS 35 WHS 14 I would like to give more props to Wolcott who has improved tremendously but this just seems to be the type of game AHS wins big, you know the old Ansonia is slipping, injured, or whatever and they come out and wax someone.
HC 24 Kennedy 20. HC really isn't that good but could they really lose to Kennedy(when was the last time this actually happened?)
Watertown 35 Wilby 21 Watertown can run the ball, Wilby can't stop the run(see Torrington game) enough said. Wilby punches one in late to make it look closer than it should.
Woodland 27 THS 14 I would like to ride the Red Raider bandwagon but there momentum came to a hault in the second half at Wilby. WRHS has gotten better since Murren got healthier.
Darrick Williams was the athlete of the week in the NVL. Does that really count when you play against Wilby? We will have to see if he still is anything to rave about against the Hawks. Maybe this is the wat the Wtby Republican sells papers in Torrington......
Woodland seems pretty quiet on the boards this year. I see them making a slow comeback in the next couple weeks. THS did nothing against SHS and Crosby, WRHS has a good run d and THS is soft against the run. SHS is in for a battle as the bulldogs can score at will. Watch out for Watertown, they will get better as the season goes on
Yeah, well I guess when you rush for 270 yards, return a kick off for 90 yards and a TD AND play LB, you get that kind of award.
I did the game on the radio and thought he was pretty good.
I agree, let's see what he does this week.
Listed at 6'1', 205 on my roster. Makes him one of the bigger RB's in the league. Deceptive speed also.
