CCC :WEEK #7 IN REVIEW AND WEEK #8 PREVIEW

All top 7 Teams in my CCC Poll remained in exact order as Week #6 Poll. All 7 played well and some great matchups await the CCC High School Football Fans in Week #9 and #10.The Owls of Hartford Public(5-2) and the Lancers of Bristol Eastern(5-2) enter the top ten for the First time. The Wethersfield Eagles and the Hall Warriors dropped out of the top 10 poll with loses in week #7.Manchester Indians stay in the top 10 for at least 1 more week but drop to 10th.They visit another CCC heavy weight New Britain and most likely will suffer their 3rd straight loss and say goodbye to the top 10 for the 2008 season.

My CCC Top 10
...........................
Glastonbury
Southington
New Britain
Newington
Weaver
Simsbury
Windsor
Bristol Eastern
Hartford Public
Manchester

All went pretty much as expected in the CCC in week #6 except for the Public Owls "upsetting"the Warhawks of Bloomfield and the ease of the win of the Conard Chieftains vs the Wethersfield Eagles.

Strong Showings in Week #7
Glastonbury,New Britain, Southington,Weaver,Public, Simsbury ,Conard

Disappointments in Week #7
Wethersfield,Bloomfield

THURSDAY: Oct. 30
**************************
Southington at East Hartford, 6:30 p.m.
Blue Knights of Southington win easy over the stingless Hornets. This game should be over by halftime. The Blue Knights undefeated streak in 2008 vs Connecticut teams will be severely tested AFTER this game as the remainder of their season consists of Glastonbury,New Britain,Hartford Public and Cheshire.

FRIDAY Oct. 31
*********************
Bloomfield at Rockville, 6:30 p.m.
Warhawks win this game relatively easily for win #3 of 2008 vs the consistent Rams of Rockville who will drop to 0-8.

Manchester at New Britain, 7:00 p.m.
New Britain Hurricanes should win by a few scores to improve to (7-1) .Was it only 3 weeks ago the Indians were 5-0 ?
Hurricanes schedule for remainder of the 2008 season: Simsbury,Southington,Glastonbury.Man that loss to the Weaver Beavers a few weeks ago will haunt then come December.

Bulkeley at Maloney, 6:30 p.m.
A "Pick -Um"game at Ceppa Field.Go with the Home Team(Maloney Spartans) to improve to 2-5 and the Bulldogs of Bulkeley to drop to 1-6.

Platt at Newington, 7:00 p.m.
Newington Indians win easily to improve to 7-1 and march forward into the December playoffs. The Platt Panthers drop to 5-3.How Platt has won 5 games this year is a mystery to me.Very inflated record so far in 2008 IMO.

Windsor at Farmington, 7:00 p.m.
Windsor Warriors improve to 6-2 with a Blow out road win against the Farmington Indians. At least the Indians have a straight number(1) in the win column for 2008.

Hall at Bristol Eastern, 7:00 p.m. (At Muzzy Field)
Lancers with a semi close home victory over the Warriors of Hall to improve to 6-2.The Warriors will drop to .500 with a 4-4 record.

Wethersfield at Weaver, 12:00 p.m.
The Weaver Beavers, all 25 strong,go to 6-2 with a semi close victory at Beaver Meadows over the .500 Wethersfield Eagles 4-4 in a high noon shootout. Can I say Shootout in Hartford ?

Bristol Central at Glastonbury, 1:00 p.m.
Tomahawks with an easy win to improve to 8-0 over the once proud Rams who drop to 1-7.The Tomahawks to face Southington in Week #9 and New Britain on Thanksgiving Eve .Things should become very interesting before the regular season schedule concludes.

Simsbury at Conard, 1:00 p.m.
The Trojans of Simsbury continue a very successful year improving to 6-2 with a relatively close win on the road against the Chieftains of Conard who are having an uncharacteristically losing season and will drop to 1-7 with this loss.

Professional Predictions

Gotta appreciate the smug look Jaffee has while Mike talks about his recent success in the picks. Good for you...good for you....He's still really nice about giving both sides of the Ansonia/Watertown game, and even lauds Crosby, and then says it will be a close game for Wolcott. As for Mike...I think Torrington has something to say about the Copper during this week.

Want to Laugh

The following are quotes from Mr. Jaffee of the Waterbury Republican.....

"....the South-West Conference, which over the past decade is the best league, top to bottom, in the state"
"Many may disagree, saying the FCIAC or Southern Connecticut Conference are better. But they haven’t viewed the postseason records closely enough, with the likes of Brookfield, Masuk, Pomperaug and Stratford all in the mix every single year since the decade began"

Well Mr. Jaffee it is clearly obvious to me that the strong lighting that you use on the show you have (which amazingly enough we post here every week) has gone to your head...

By the way.......

State champions this decade:

SCC: Hand (three), Shelton (twice), Hillhouse (twice), Branford (once), Notre Dame of West Haven (once), West Haven (once) and Xavier (once)

FCIAC: New Canaan (four), Staples (three), Greenwich (twice) and Ridgefield (once)

Second-Worst Conference: Bunnell (twice) and Pomperaug (once)

I assume you want people to listen to you and think you are actually knowedgeable about what you do......As a bystander I would you say you have passion but that is about it!

SCC for a Week 7

Well the season is just flying by...here is what the SCC offers this week

Hamden (6-0) at Xavier (5-1)Last week: Hamden defeated Branford 31-0; Xavier defeated Guilford 41-9
Well the showcase game of the week. I am sure the Xavier faithful wearing stripes will make sure Hamden has their share of penalties. Will Hamden be able to play 11 on 16?? I am sick of hearing how improved Hamden is, duhh.. they should be. The only problem is who the hell wants to drive to Middletown??

Shelton (4-2) at Prep (2-3)Last week: Shelton defeated Law 62-14; Prep lost to Hillhouse 34-6
Big one for the Gaels. Hope they do not overlook them thinking about Hillhouse on Halloween..

Notre Dame (1-4) at Cross (5-1)Last week: ND defeated Derby 57-19; Cross defeated East Haven 35-14
2 Red and White opponents in 2 weeks for the private schoolers. This red and white team is a smidge better....

Cheshire (4-2) at Hand (4-2)Last week: Cheshire defeated Sheehan 42-0; Hand defeated North Haven 49-40
This will be a great game. It is also the typical game the Rams do not win anymore....

Lyman Hall (2-4) at Branford (2-4)Last week: Lyman Hall lost to Amity 41-6; Branford lost to Hamden 31-0
Division 2 opponents...Enough said....

Hillhouse (6-0) at Law (2-4)Last week: Hillhouse defeated Prep 34-6; Law lost to Shelton 62-14
Hey Law..Hillhouse I am sure remembers last year..You poor things...

Foran (4-2) at Derby (1-5)Last week: Foran lost to West Haven 57-13; Derby lost to ND 57-19
Wow...I guess White and Hames will look like awesome superstars again since they are playing the worst team in the league.

North Haven (2-4) at Sheehan (4-2)Last week: North Haven lost to Hand 49-40; Sheehan lost to Cheshire 42-0
I will use the ridiculous line that the Indians are a good 2-4 team if there is such a thing. I see them winning as Sags always does alot with a little

Amity (3-3) at Guilford (3-3)Last week: Amity defeated Lyman Hall 41-6; Guilford lost to Xavier 41-9
This should be fun if you decide to tackle I95 on a Friday

East Haven (0-6) at West Haven (2-3)Last week: East Haven lost to Cross 35-14; West Haven defeated Foran 57-13
Hahahah East Haven..Are you kidding me....Pick the score. Careful Eddie Mac we want you around coaching next week... Did I ever tell you how nice the EH Band trailer is??

Finally this is the best high school sport there is. We only have a month more of it. Go out a see any game in any league (maybe not the Pequot) and enjoy....

Southington
New Britain
Newington
Weaver
Simsbury
Manchester
Wethersfield
Windsor

All went pretty much expected in the CCC in week #6 except for the Windsor Warriors getting"upset" at Wethersfield on Saturday and the Fermi Falcons losing a close one vs EO Smith.

Hartford Public at Bloomfield, 7:00 p.m.
Warhawks win in a close one to inch closer to .500 getting win #3,The Pub 1 game win streak is history

Southington at Manchester, 7:00 p.m.
Blue Knights travel to Manchester and continue their perfect record against state competition winning relatively comfortably by 2-3 scores.

Bristol Central at Platt, 6:30 p.m.
If this was week #1 I would have gone with the Rams but being week #7 and the way the Rams have performed thus far it looks like the Panthers should win in a real close game.

Bulkeley at Bristol Eastern, 7:00 p.m.
Lancers win their 4th game of the year with an easy victory over the lonely Bull Dogs at Muzzy Field.

Maloney at Newington, 7:00 p.m.
Indians improve to 6-1 and move closer to December Playoffs with a big margin home victory over the 1 win Spartans

Wethersfield at Conard, 6:00 p.m.
Eagles continue a good year with a close road victory over the now retreating Chiftains.

Hall at Windsor, 7:00 p.m.
Hall Warriors back to reality after a big win vs Farmington as Windsor wins by a few scores. That is if the Windsor Warriors do not have a second half of the season collapse.

New Britain at Rockville, 6:30 p.m.
Hurricanes roll big in Vernon to improve to 6-1 heading into the meat of their schedule. At least Rockville stays perfect and consistent at 0-6.

SATURDAY* Oct. 25

E.O. Smith at South Windsor, 1:30 p.m.
South Windsor Bobcats should win this " pick um" game at home vs their visitors from Storrs ,EO Smith

Trojans rebound from their loss to the Blue Knights rolling big against the Hornets from East Hartford and improving to 5-2.

Farmington at Weaver, 12:00 p.m.
Weaver Beavers with an easy win at Beaver Meadows vs the 1 win Farmington Indians.

Fermi at Glastonbury, 1:00 p.m.
If Fermi lost to EO Smith in week #6 then this one will be over at Halftime .Tomahawks improve to 7-0.

421 - 129

It was a few years ago when the SCC decided to realign to a Division 1 and a Division 2. Each division has an East and West side...The powers to be wanted to make the league competitive and fair. So they decided to base it on the factor of school size (among other things)..So Division 1 is the big and Division 2 is the smaller. There are a couple of things that had to be changed to appease some of the cry baby head coaches...

1. Hand which is "smaller" was moved up to Division 1 since the schools in Division 2 did not want them there.
2. Hillhouse was team that was asked to go to Division 1 since they were good as well. They had a coach at the time that begged not to go up and play. So they sent Cross up who was winless for years to play in Div 1. It was really an easy decision since the HC of Hillhouse had a dad that gave the head of New Haven athletics his job, so the decision was easy.regardless....
3. Hillhouse did not want to ever play West Haven so the SCC places a rule that the Div1 west can only crossover with the Div2 west unless it is Thanksgiving(The same thing holds true for East as well...
4. Certain teams were placed in certain divisions since they knew they could not compete ala East Haven

If you look at the league in this order D1 West, D1 East, D2 West, D2East they can really be in the order from good to worse..So you can say Div 1,2,3,4 instead of what we have.

The big problem with this setup that some other leagues also have is the fact that there are many instances a particular teams needs a specific team to win to gain playoff points.
Example..WH plays Wilbur Cross and does not Hillhouse(because Div1 East can not play Div2 west). On T-Giving WH needs WC to win vs Hillhouse. In other conferences those points are garunteed since everyone plays each other.
Another frustrating thing is that the teams in Div 2 are just not that good and they play other teams that are not that good while the teams in Div 1 play each other and beat each other.....
So a div 2 team can end up making the state tourney while a better Div 1 team sits home......

You ask why all that...simple..it was cross over week meaning Div 1 played Div 2.......

1-3 WH beat 4-1 Foran 57-13
2-3 Amity beat 2-3 Lyman Hall 41-6
Other than Hillhouse saving face and beating Prep the Div1 teams won every other match-up with the scores totaling 421-129.........

Week 6 Review/Week 7 Picks-NVL

Watertown 41, Sacred Heart 13
Ansonia 40, Holy Cross 6
Crosby 40, Naugatuck 15
Seymour 44, Kennedy 14
Wolcott 14, Torrington 7
Woodland 21, Wilby 6

That makes me for 5-1 last week, missing the Wolcott win. Good for Crosby, helping the city of Waterbury avoid a 0 for 5 weekend. Honestly, I've got no comments on this week. What should have happened did happen. The schedule was kind of week for week 6.

Week 7 includes some equally unimpressive match ups. What is interesting is that this week features divisional games, making them count...a little.
BRASS
Ansonia at Watertown, 7:00 p.m.-Watertown's running game is good. Ansonia is better.
Chargers-37, Injuns-12
Crosby at Wolcott, 7:00 p.m.-Wolcott is an also ran in this division. They would easily win the Copper. I expect Crosby to continue taking out its frustrations from the Seymour loss on yet another inferior team. Bulldogs-53, Screaming Eagles-20
Wilby at Seymour, 7:00 p.m.-Scaredy Cats vs. Wildcats. Osiecki and Drozd light 'em up defensively, as the Blue and Gold ground game scores in bunches. Look for this to be over by the half. Wildcats-42, Scaredy Cats-6
COPPER
Holy Cross at Woodland, 7:00 p.m.-Murren's healthy? Watch out Crusaders. Hawks win big. This will turn into a freshman game for the 4th, and the score will look closer than it really is.
Regional School District 16 Hawks-34, Sisters of the Blind-18
Torrington at Naugatuck, 7:00 p.m.-Both Naugatuck and Woodland will enter Friday night undefeated in the Copper. Only Woodland will end the night that way. Look for the Der-ummm, Torrington Red Raiders to get off the schnide. Plasky vs. Dunaj? I take Dunaj any day of the week. The Plaskinator may want to stay at the rec league soccer match. Sorry Greyhound fans.
Red Raiders-28, Hounds-14
Sacred Heart at Kennedy, 10:30 a.m. (Sat.)-Another game not worth the Frankie's run to watch. I'd rather hit the original on Watertown Ave. Somebody has to win this one. The question is, who wants it least? Both teams have athletes. It's on the turf at the Muni. This could turn out to be a sloppy, yet fun game to watch. Bring your stop watches.
Hearts-22, Beagles-21
