Thanksgiving SCC style......

Well it is all over after Thanksgiving for many SCC teams. Hamden, Cheshire, and Hillhouse just need to take care of business on Turkey Day and they are all set. For the others it is play hard and then find out when to report to your local passing league. There are some teams that had dreams but now it is over. The Gaels found a way to get progressively worse each week, West Haven took to many weeks to get better, and Hand was bitten by the injury bug (although they still have a ridiculous chance of the playoffs). Xavier realized home cooking is better than eating on the road. So here is week 11...This is the best time of the year for HS football. You have games on Wed. night and of course Thursday morning. So Happy Thanksgiving and if you are from the Valley...Happy New Year!!!!

Thanksgiving Games
Guilford (4-6) at Hand (6-4)Last week: Guilford defeated East Haven 41-6; Hand defeated Shelton 31-14
I actually saw this game once, not that it means anything. Hand comes off a big win and with playoffs still a chance they will be ready

Prep (3-6) at West Haven (5-4)Last week: Prep lost to Cheshire 38-6; West Haven defeated Xavier 37-14
Prep it is so hard for me to imagine you are so bad. Maybe they go out and win one for the old coach who is calling it quits...Maybe...

Branford (6-4) at East Haven (0-10)Last week: Branford defeated Foran 55-42; East Haven lost to Guilford 41-6
East Haven has a great band trailer. Maybe the football team will be better off staying on it for the game.

Derby (3-7) at Shelton (6-4)Last week: Derby defeated Lyman Hall 25-13; Shelton lost to Hand 31-14
Shelton was good at one time this year. Derby was never good at any time this year

Amity (6-4) at North Haven (4-6)Last week: Amity defeated ND 37-35; North Haven defeated Law 51-7
This actually could be close. It will be a big score for Div 2 if NH could win.

Sheehan (6-4) at Lyman Hall (2-8)Last week: Sheehan lost to Hillhouse 45-28; Lyman Hall lost to Derby 25-13
I saw LH on Friday for a quarter. It was 12 minutes too much for me.

Law (3-7) at Foran (6-4)Last week: Law lost to North Haven 51-7; Foran lost to Branford 55-42
Law has no idea what they are doing. Foran only does when they play bad teams

Cross (6-4) at Hillhouse (10-0)Last week: Cross lost to Hamden 10-6; Hillhouse defeated Sheehan 45-28
Always a fun game. They all know each other. HH wants to be perfect and likely will.

Notre Dame (3-6) at Hamden (9-1)Last week: Notre Dame lost to Amity 37-35; Hamden defeated Cross 10-6
Hey ND maybe try for this....Maybe

Middletown (5-5) vs. Xavier (6-4)Last week: Middletown lost to Rocky Hill 26-6; Xavier lost to West Haven 37-14
Maybe Middletown does not get screwed like everyone else does when they go there

Cheshire (8-2) at Southington (6-3)Last week: Cheshire defeated Prep 38-6; Southington lost to New Britain 3-0
The marquee game even though it only 1/2 the SCC. Cheshire which is really only Billy Raggone will go only as far as he does. This will be fun. The best is you can see it Wed night this year....

CCC:WEEK #10 IN REVIEW AND WEEK #11/THANKSGIVING PREVIEW

Last weeks #2(Southington), #5(Hartford Public),#8(Hall) rated teams last week tasted defeat in week #10.The Tomahawks of Glastonbury remained undefeated at (10-0) and head into their final game(Thanksgiving Eve) @ New Britain undefeated .Glastonbury should have now clinched a LL Playoff birth and with a win vs the Hurricanes will guarantee itself a home game in the semi finals against an unknown(at this time) opponent. The Trojans of Simsbury move up to the #2 spot although not overly impressive play against Manchester.

My CCC Top 10
...........................
Glastonbury
Simsbury
New Britain
Windsor
Southington
Newington
Bristol Eastern
Hartford Weaver
Hartford Public
Hall

It was another exciting in week #10 in the CCC as advertised with many competitive games .I felt there were a few minor upsets, most I picked as "Toss Ups" or "Nail Bitters".These games would include:

New Britain 3, Southington 0
South Windsor 7, Hartford Public 6
Rockville 13, E.O. Smith 0
Bristol Central 44, Maloney 29

A few games I thought would have been won by much larger margins would Include:

Simsbury 14, Manchester 13
Windsor 14, Conard 7

Strong Showings in Week #10
Glastonbury,,Bristol Eastern,South Windsor,New Britain,Bristol Central ,Hartford Weaver and Rockville (Yes the Rams,Not a Misprint !)

Disappointments in Week #10
Southington ,Hartford Public ,Simsbury and Windsor both in victories

************
Nov. 19
************

Southington at Hartford Public, 6:00 p.m. (At Dillon Stadium)
A make up game from a week #3 Rain Out.Both teams playing for pride as both have been eliminated from postseason play. The Blue Knights should bounce back from a shut out against New Britain in week #9 and score enough points to defeat the Pub at home by a few scores. This game will be played at the original Hartford area big house: Dillon Stadium at 6:00 p.m.I could tell you about the Grateful Dead and Rolling Stones concerts there in the 1960's but I will save those stories for another day.

************
Nov. 21
************
Rockville at Fermi, 5:00 p.m.
A battle of (1-8) teams.Go with the Home Team Falcons of Fermi to win this one in a relatively close game. 1 good reason I picked Fermi is I cannot imagine the Rams to have a 2 game winning streak.

Simsbury at Farmington, 7:00 p.m.
Simsbury stays hot (9-2) and the Indians of Farmington stay cold and finish their season at (1-10) as the Trojans win by 3 + scores and secure a home Semi Final Playoff game !

************
Nov. 22
************
Conard at Hall, 1:30 p.m.
The Battle of West Hartford. It looks like the Warriors of Hall are a little more talented than their next door neighbors and should prevail by about 2 scores to end their season at (7-4) and the Chieftains uncharacteristically finish with a disappointing (2-9) record.

************
Nov. 26
************
South Windsor at Rockville, 6:30 p.m.
Bob Cats finish with a impressive (7-4) record with an easy road win in Vernon. Rockville has at least avoided the dreadful winningless season and start 2009 season off with only a 2 game losing streak.

Manchester at East Hartford, 6:00 p.m. (At Rentschler Field)
Another $8 ticket at the Rent ?
Manchester cruises to a 2 score victory to finish at a respectful (7-4).
Bring some gloves as the Hot Chocolate could be raised up from its $3 price for the Thanksgiving Holiday rush.

Glastonbury at New Britain, 7:00 p.m.
Game of the week in the CCC.New Britain playing for its playoff lives and the Tomahawks playing for a Semi Final Home game .I favor Glastonbury by a score plus to end the Hurricanes playoff hopes .A Hurricane victory and we may see a rematch in another few days.

Windsor at Bloomfield, 6:30 p.m.
Another battle between "feuding "neighbors .I cannot get a read on either team as both have had inconsistent play all season long. Windsor has its playoff lives on the line and is the more talented team thusly I will go with the Warhawks of Bloomfield to "upset" the Warriors in a VERY high scoring game and end the Warrior's Title hopes.

Cheshire at Southington, 6:00 p.m.
SCC vs CCC
The APPLE BOWL is always a very entertaining game .A Cheshire win and they advance into post season play. The Blue Knights are trying to play spoiler but most likely will fall a score or more short at home.Southington's offense has been a little down this year and Cheshire's offense is named Billy Ragone.

************
Nov. 26
************
Bristol Eastern at Bristol Central, 10:30 a.m.
The Lancers of Bristol Eastern should prevail at Muzzy field over the Rams of Bristol Central and keep their MM playoff hopes alive. This game is always close..Very Close.

Platt at Maloney, 10:30 a.m.
The battle of Meriden. The Platt Panthers have the better record and should come away with bragging rights over the Maloney Spartans in a "Nail Bitter".

Weaver at Hartford Public, 10:00 a.m.
The Battle of Hartford !!
Weaver Beavers(All 23 players or less)vs Andre Lawrence and the Pub.The Beavers have a good shot at the MM post Season with a win at Dillon stadium. This game should come down to the last team with the ball in an extremely low scoring game .A toss up with heads coming up with a Weaver win.The Beavers head into the semi finals and the "Pub" ends .Unless the coin comes up tails that is ??

Wethersfield at Newington, 10:00 a.m.
Newington somehow finds itself into the class L playoffs at (9-2) with a close win on the road at the Famous Frank Cottone Field. How the Indians finished (9-2)is a mystery to me and a trick even Houdini would be proud of.The under/over for the award winning Wethersfield band to come out of the stands and start preparing for its Halftime show is the end of the 1st quarter ?!

Fermi at Enfield, 10:00 a.m.
Bottom CCC team vs Middle of the pack Nutmeg league team .Although Enfield will join the CCC in 2009.Go with the home team Enfield Raiders to win this one by a few scores over the Fermi Falcons.

E.O. Smith at Windham, 10:15 a.m
Bottom CCC team vs middle of the pack ECC team .Although the Windham Whippets were a CCC a few years ago.The Whippets should win by a large margin at home on Turkey day. What is a Whippet anyways ??
